Veterinary labs
For animal labs, with honest limits.
Lab Desk was built for human clinical labs. A lot of it carries over to veterinary work: the catalog, orders, results, sharing and payments. Some parts need a conversation first, so talk to us before you commit.

What carries over
The parts that work the same for animals.
Your own catalog.
Set up your tests, panels, units, reference ranges and prices. The ranges are yours to define.
Links for the vet clinic.
The ordering vet gets a secure link on release, plus a standing link to every result they ordered.
Owner payments.
Send the owner a payment link and collect straight into your own Stripe account.
Test catalog
Reference ranges you set yourself.
Lab Desk flags results against the ranges in your catalog, so the flags follow whatever ranges you enter. Ranges can vary by sex and age. Separate ranges per species aren't a built-in option today; one way to handle it is a test entry per species.
- Custom tests and panels with units
- Price per test for owner billing
- Staff confirm every flag before release

Results to the clinic
The vet sees results as soon as you release them.
Each order stores the ordering vet or clinic. On release, they get a secure link with out-of-range values highlighted.
- Enter results by hand or from connected analyzers
- Access log on every link
- Standing link per clinic

Where to check with us
The parts we'd rather talk through.
Patient records and summaries were designed for people reading their own results. How an animal and its owner fit the record, and whether owner summaries make sense for your lab, is worth a call before you decide.
HIPAA covers human health information, so it doesn't apply to animal records. Owners' contact details still get the same encryption, role-based access and audit log as every other account, and in the UK they fall under UK GDPR.

A typical workflow
How a sample could move through Lab Desk.
- 1
Clinic sends a sample.
Create an order with the animal, owner contact, ordering vet, tests and sample ID.
- 2
Run the tests.
Enter results or receive them from a connected analyzer.
- 3
Review.
Values outside your ranges are flagged. Staff confirm them and release.
- 4
Share and bill.
The vet gets a provider link and the owner gets a payment link.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lab Desk a good fit for a veterinary lab?
It can be, depending on how you work. The catalog, orders, results, provider links and payments carry over well. Talk to us and we'll tell you honestly where it fits and where it doesn't.
Can we set reference ranges by species?
You set every reference range in your own catalog, and ranges can vary by sex and age. Species isn't a built-in range option today. One workaround is a separate test entry per species; we're happy to talk through what you need.
Does HIPAA apply to animal records?
No. HIPAA covers human health information. Lab Desk still protects owners' personal details with encryption, role-based access and an audit log, and UK owners' details fall under UK GDPR.
Can the vet clinic get results directly?
Yes. The ordering vet or clinic gets a secure link when a result is released, plus a standing link to every result they ordered.
Can owners pay online?
Yes. Send a payment link and the owner pays by card or digital wallet through Stripe, straight into your account.
