Your choice
Sending data to an outside AI is your lab's call.
Claude and ChatGPT are run by other companies. If your team asks questions that bring patient data into the assistant, that data leaves Lab Desk and goes to that AI provider.
That is your lab's choice to make, and it needs an AI plan that covers your compliance needs. For US labs, that means a BAA with the AI provider.
Before you connect
Check your AI plan's data terms with the provider. Keep questions operational where you can, such as counts, turnaround and invoices.
Built-in AI
Lab Desk's own AI is separate.
The AI that flags abnormal results and drafts patient summaries is built into Lab Desk. It runs on AWS in your hosting region, under our agreements, and never uses your data to train models. It doesn't need Claude or ChatGPT.

Is this available now?

Which assistants will work?

Is it on by default?
No. It stays off until a lab admin turns it on, and admins can turn it off at any time.
Can the assistant see patient records?
Only what the connected user's role allows. Every call is logged. Sharing patient data with an outside AI is your lab's choice and needs an AI plan that covers your compliance needs, such as a BAA for US labs.
Is this the same as Lab Desk's AI copilot?
No. The built-in AI copilot runs on AWS inside Lab Desk. The MCP connection is for outside assistants your lab chooses to use.
